Childhood fears

So as children we feared monsters in the closet
Monsters under the bed
Monsters crouching in the dark

But no one ever warned us about
The monsters hiding under our own covers
Or the demons hiding in our heads

Maybe when i was little
I shouldnt have closed my eyes in the dark
Because I think slowly, I realized all the darkness in the world
Was hiding within my own heart
